ABOUT JERRY
I earned my bachelor's degree at the University of Texas, Austin, with a major in playwriting. I've identified myself as a writer all my life, even in childhood, but had become involved in theater during high school. After graduating from college in 1972, I moved to New York City and spent the next eighteen years writing plays, several of which were produced off Broadway, off off Broadway, and in regional, summer stock and university venues. One play was also adapted for television. Meanwhile, I sometimes wrote free lance articles for magazines, evaluated manuscripts for a division of Simon & Schuster, and spent about five years at the American Association of Advertising Agencies doing technical writing and speech writing among other things. My wife and I also had two children near the end of that period.
We moved to Asheville, North Carolina in 1990, where we live today. Here, I've been able to draft several novellas, novels, and short stories. Black Heron Press (Seattle) published my novel Homunculus in March, 2009. I've also taught creative writing workshops for adults and at a number of schools, guest lectured at several colleges around the country, and served as artist-in-residence in some North Carolina public school systems.
Writing can sometimes be isolating. Email me. I'm interested.
