About Jerry
Jerry Stubblefield's 2009 novel
Homunculus has been called "a
beautifully crafted and deeply weird
book" (Byron Ballard in
Rapid River Magazine), as well as
"excellently paced" "brilliantly described"
"wonderfully subtle" and "a great book"
(in Electric City). More than one
reviewer has noted the book is
"not for the faint of heart," and most
agree it is often funny. The book is set
in psychological territory rarely visited
by other writers, dark corners of the
psyche occupied by surprisingly
seductive demons. Mike Hopping
(author of MacTiernan's Bottle and Rhythms on a Flaming Drum) wrote "Estrangement and isolation have long been fodder for subjectivist art—think Albert Camus and Hollywood’s never-ending parade of misunderstood heroes. But until Homunculus I’d somehow missed the potential profundity of that."
Literary magazines including Crucible, Chrysalis Reader, and The Great Smokies Review have published Stubblefield's short fiction, and Aries Journal of Art & Literature has published his poetry. His dramatic works for the stage have been produced in New York City at The WPA Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Theatre at the Riverside Church, The Nat Horne, and others. His plays were also produced at Creative Visions Inc. in Los Angeles, The Laboratory Theatre in Austin, Texas, the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre in North Carolina, and The Peterborough Players in New Hampshire.
